The modern history of Bedford dates back to the 1850s when homesteaders seeking a better life for their families settled in the area. By 1882, the community had a population of more than 1,000 surpassing in population all other communities in Tarrant County except Fort Worth. Bedford continued to prosper, but declined rapidly after a new highway was built between Fort Worth and Dallas leaving the town isolated on an obsolete road. World War II provided the next wave of growth for this community. In the years following, additional establishments were built and more people settled in the area. Today, Bedford is a vibrant community that continues to grow and expand its many features offered to residents.

Excellent city services, a safe living environment, an easy commute and affordable housing are just some of the reasons why many people love to call Bedford home.
